A Year in Review: Community Outreach + Support in 2022

DAVIS team poses at the fundraising event for Samaritan Inns.

Serving our community is a crucial part of our values and will always be essential to our culture. We’ve worked with and supported organizations and non-profits throughout the DC metro area for more than 50 years because the heart of our mission is to build success for all. This year we continued to provide outreach with our partners, and we worked to further relationships with organizations like the American Heart Association, the Lollipop Kids Foundation, and more.

We’re proud to have a continued impact throughout the MidAtlantic with our active involvement and support of the following charities, nonprofits, and fundraising events. In addition to financial contributions and extensive in-kind donations, our employees and interns volunteered their time to over 75 organizations and philanthropic initiatives in 2022.

American Heart Association

DAVIS has been a proud partner of American Heart Association for 11 years, and we took that partnership a step further this year with our participation in the AHA Greater Washington Heart Walk fundraising event in support of the fight against heart disease and stroke. The DAVIS team received 282 donations throughout the month of October and raised over $68K for AHA! For the fourth year now, DAVIS’ Mike Pittsman joined the Executive Leadership Team for the Heart Walk.

Boys + Girls Clubs of Greater Washington

With Jim Davis serving as Board Chairman for the organization, DAVIS donated backpacks, notebooks, and other critical school supplies to the Boys + Girls Clubs of Greater Washington (BGCGW), and even helped pack up the backpacks as part of the #PackChallenge! These efforts helped BGCGW prepare for fall programs and send kids off with proper supplies prior to the end of summer camp.

Calvary Women’s Services

This year, we continued to support Calvary Women’s Services through financial, pro bono, in-kind and volunteer services with our very own Kara Mele serving on the Board of Directors. Partnering with MGAC, we recently completed a full renovation of two townhomes to serve survivors of domestic violence in the "New Foundations" program. This local organization empowers homeless women in DC to transform their lives through housing, health, education, and employment programs.

Capital Area Food Bank

We are proud to support the mission of Capital Area Food Bank as they work to create access to good, healthy food in every community. We teamed up with HYL Architects for CANStruction, a nationwide program that aims to raise awareness about hunger through a design-build competition that benefits the Capital Area Food Bank with donations of canned goods. Additionally, our teams donated over 4800 pounds of food as part of the Washington Building Congress Food Drive, organized by Mike Holland at Boston Properties!

DAVIS Annual Charity Golf  Tournament

Our Ninth Annual Charity Golf  Tournament took place in September with 128 participants representing over 30 long-time partners and subcontractors. With the help of generous sponsors, we raised over $62K this year. This year, the proceeds were donated to a special DAVIS partner, the Lollipop Kids Foundation, an organization that helps children with disabilities reach their fullest potential by combating social stigmas, easing the financial burden placed on parents, and offering emotional support.

DCBIA Community Improvement Day

Each year, industry employees come together with the DC Building Industry Association to revive a public gathering place for an underserved neighborhood. In September,  Steve Hawryluk and Jon Ellen organized a team of our DAVIS volunteers to participate in DCBIA’s annual Community Improvement Day (CID) at Oxon Run Park in Congress Heights. We partnered with Perkins Eastman this year for CID, as volunteers built seating, added graphics, and more. Additionally, a plaque was built for long-time DAVIS employee and dedicated DCBIA member Ridge Kelley, who passed away earlier this year.

Jubilee Housing

We were proud to work with our long-time friends at Jubilee Housing again this year. We provided back-to-school supplies through Jubilee’s Back to School Store initiative and volunteered for the Elf Store, providing children of Jubilee Housing the opportunity to buy gifts for their family at a significantly reduced cost. DAVIS employees volunteered their time, and as an organization we donated gifts to the store.

Nourish Now

For the fifth consecutive year, we partnered with local Montgomery County nonprofit Nourish Now, as our summer interns helped to organize the food in their new warehouse space. The organization’s mission is to alleviate hunger in Montgomery County by collecting unused fresh food and redistributing to dedicated food donors throughout the area. Through their work, they are able to feed thousands of residents each year.

Samaritan Inns Fundraising Breakfast

For the ninth year, we teamed up with Clark Construction Group to co-host the Samaritan Inns fundraising breakfast, held at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC. In partnership with Clark, DAVIS raised over $75,000 for the organization. Samaritan Inns provides services, rehabilitation programs, and shelter for people and their families recovering from addiction and homelessness.

Cheers to a great year as we look forward to further serving our communities in 2023!
