Through real-life scenarios and case studies, this class examines safety incidents. From managing the incident-to-incident types to accident investigations, attendees will learn to anticipate, prepare for, and ideally mitigate safety incidents on project sites. (Course length: 1 hour)
Examine the non-technical aspects of DAVIS’ Fishers Place Parking Garage Project, which had a catastrophic collapse during the precast concrete erection in 2002. By emphasizing how seemingly little issues can lead to major consequences, this class stresses the high level of personal care and responsibility every member of the construction industry has with the safety and well-being of the public and the personnel working on the site. Safety regulations governing the precast concrete industry, discussion of precast issues, and news clips from local media are presented. (Course length: 1.5 hours)
This class focuses on five key concepts crucial to building a culture of safety: collaboration with industry peers, partnership with regulatory agencies, risk analysis + the hazard planning process, education and leadership commitment. Students will learn practical techniques, best-practices and review case studies focused on embedding a safety-focused culture within an organization. (Course length: 1 hour)
Topics include key contractor issues related to precast concrete structures, tilt-up, cast-in-place and interiors concrete. Instructors will share their concrete knowledge through past DAVIS projects, including exterior repairs to the Washington Cathedral. (Course Length: 1.5 Hours)
During this overview of how elevators are constructed, instructors will cover: the history of elevators, varying types of elevators, selection and procurement, typical elevator construction process, and Permits, code requirements, and inspections. (Course length: 1.5 hours)

The insurance and risk management industry encompasses a wide range of critical issues and considerations. This presentation blends information sharing with audience participation to analyze types of construction insurance, contractual risk transfer, OCIPs and CCIPs, bonds + surety, and budgeting for insurance + bonding. (Course length: 1 hour)
This presentation illustrates the benefits of BIM and Virtual Construction (VC). Explore how virtual construction is transforming the way a general contractor builds a project and can better control cost, schedule, and quality. From design validation and communication through trade coordination and material fabrication, this case study will demonstrate VC’s impact on the construction process. (Course length: 1 hour)
