SUMMARY:

The role of the EHS Engineer is to eliminate or control hazardous conditions resulting from human error, equipment and machine operations which may lead to human injury and / or property damage. Must apply advanced mathematical techniques; professional engineering principles, methods, and techniques; safety-related elements of the physical sciences, ergonomics, psychology and physiology; and safety principles, standards, practices and analytical techniques. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health + Safety Sciences or related field; equivalent combinations of  
    technical education and / or industrial related safety experience may substitute for educational  
    requirement 

  • Experience in occupational Environmental Health + Safety or a related field 

  • Construction industry experience 

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations 

  • Ability to recognize hazardous situations and recommend corrective measures 

  • Possesses strong communication skills, and interact effectively at all levels within the organization and external to DAVIS 

 

TECHNICAL JOB KNOWLEDGE:

  • Field Safety Inspections and Hazard Control 

  • Conducts EHS inspections independently, identifying hazards and verifying corrective actions 

  • Documents findings and follow-up actions using DAVIS EHS systems 

  • Communicates observed risks clearly to field personnel and trade partners 

  • Applies knowledge of construction tools, equipment, and means-and-methods to assess hazards 

  • Safety Planning and High-Risk Work Review 

  • Reviews Pre-Task Plans, Job Hazard Analyses, and high-risk work plans (e.g., crane lifts, demolition, fall protection) 

  • Evaluates adequacy of hazard controls and collaborates with project teams to improve planning 

  • Applies understanding of construction sequencing and site logistics to support proactive risk management 

  • Trade Partner and Project Team Leadership Engagement 

  • Builds working relationships with trade partners to reinforce EHS expectations 

  • Evaluates trade partner compliance with site-specific safety requirements 

  • Engages operations leadership by sharing safety performance updates and seeking input on EHS outcomes 

  • Training, Education and Meeting Facilitation 

  • Delivers and co-instructs EHS training in field and classroom settings 

  • Develops basic training materials and presentation content 

  • Prepares EHS agenda items for project and trade partner meetings 

  • Presents safety-related material clearly and professionally 

  • Incident Investigation and Corrective Action Support 

  • Participates in incident investigations by gathering facts and identifying contributing factors 

  • Supports root cause analysis and incident reporting processes 

  • Assists project teams in identifying and tracking corrective actions 

  • Project Assessments and Audits  

  • Completes Monthly Project EHS Assessments and facilitates engagement on findings 

  • Works with senior EHS and operations staff to develop corrective action plans 

  • Assists with EHS audits on projects outside primary assignments to support consistency and benchmarking 

  • Project Start-Up and Site Controls 

  • Supports project EHS start-up activities, including signage, postings, and site orientation 

  • Conducts or supports EHS kick-off meetings and trade partner preconstruction meetings 

  • Uses EHS permitting processes to support safe execution of high-risk activities 

  • Documentation, Data Systems and Reporting 

  • Uses DAVIS systems to manage inspections, permits, incidents, and documentation 

  • Maintains accurate records and supports logistics planning and reporting 

  • Prepares and distributes meeting minutes to document discussions and track action items 

  • Regulatory Knowledge and Performance Analytics 

  • Participates in OSHA inspections and consultations, representing DAVIS professionally 

  • Applies OSHA, local regulations, DAVIS EHS Manual, and contract requirements to field conditions 

  • Begins analyzing field data and metrics to identify trends and support performance improvement 

  • Professional Development and Outreach 

  • Manages responsibilities across multiple active projects with effective prioritization and follow-through 

  • Maintains required certifications (OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR) and pursues continued development 

  • Supports environmental and industrial hygiene activities, including exposure monitoring 

  • Participates in high school and university outreach and recruiting efforts to support future EHS talent

The base salary (or hourly) range for this position is

$78,000.00 - $95,000.00
