District Church - National Baptist Memorial Sanctuary
  Project Brief
Founded in 1907, the National Baptist Memorial Church in DC is undergoing a much needed restoration project after decades of slow dilapidation. National Baptist and The District Church are joining forces to rebuild and share the historic landmark's space--and DAVIS is lucky enough to be a part of the building's renovation, because this project has a special connection.
Family Tradition
Our CEO Jim Davis' great-grandfather, Edwin Davis, built the original sanctuary in the 1930s, drawing then President Warren G. Harding for the site's groundbreaking. When Jim found out about the site's current state, he knew we had to step in to help renew the space and return it to a vibrant community center. A family legacy come full circle.
Community Collaboration
This project will provide more than just a renovation of an old sanctuary: we are working with the local community to install full time childcare services, a community center, and a brand new center for 2 different church services, District Church and National Memorial. Working with Reverend Lisa Banks-Williams and Pastor Aaron Graham, we're working to bring everything from meeting space to an outreach center for community members who need it most.
The diversity of our congregation mirrors the neighborhood around us. That’s what we hope this building will represent — a place where people from every background can come together and feel at home.
