Hitachi Digital Lab
Project Brief
The Digital Lab in Hagerstown, MD is a state-of-the-art exhibition and innovation space designed to showcase Hitachi Rail’s cutting-edge technologies. This 5,700-SF expansion of the existing fabrication facility serves as a dynamic showroom and interactive lab, featuring immersive experiences such as a full-size rail car mockup and virtual tracks. Engineered with precision and sustainability in mind, the facility includes advanced MEP systems, a green roof, and modern presentation areas tailored for client engagement and live demonstrations. The Digital Lab exemplifies Hitachi’s commitment to modernizing the rail ecosystem.
A Project Like No Other
The Digital Lab involved multiple trades, including concrete, curved glazing, green roof, access floor panels, and countless new technological equipment. The degree of difficulty was elevated due to a design consisting of entirely curved walls, digital components throughout and elevated interior and exterior finishes.
Driven by a demanding scope and high technical complexity, this project required constant adaptability and tight execution. Through unexpected conditions and intense coordination with U.S. and Italian teams, the project was delivered on time with results that outperformed expectations.
