2016: 50 Never Looked So Good
Dec 30, 2016
The 1960s were an era of growth and change in this country. It also marked the beginning of DAVIS Construction as we know it today. In April, we celebrated our 50th anniversary in style at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC. Throughout 2016, we’ve had a lot to celebrate and reflect on including everything from industry accolades to decades-long community partnerships.
We received local and national recognition this year, not only in honor of our anniversary, but for every-day construction management, projects, advertising, and corporate culture. This year, the National Building Museum selected DAVIS as the recipient of the annual Honor Award, an award that recognizes individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to our nation’s building heritage. ENR Mid-Atlantic named us Contractor of the Year – a truly great honor. We were recognized by the Washington Business Journal as one of the “Best Places to Work” for the tenth consecutive year, earning the first-ever “Decade of Excellence” award. Another first for us was being recognized by Vault.com as having one of the Top 50 internships in the country, at #15! In addition to these honors, we also received 40 individual project awards.
2016 was not only about celebrating our milestone year, but also about the people that have made our company so incredibly special throughout the years. Current and retired employees were featured in our annual marketing campaign brand ads, which ran throughout the year in the Washington Business Journal. We also highlighted many employees through the DAVIS Destiny campaign, featured on our Facebook page here. This year, also marked the 25th anniversary of our Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). We welcomed 87 new employees and several current employees celebrated 20, 25, and 30 year anniversaries at DAVIS.
We Never Stop Building
Throughout the year, we held groundbreakings and began work on several new and exciting projects including National Industries for the Blind, 2U, Sunrise Senior Living Centers in Bethesda + Chevy Chase, MD and 225 N. Calvert Street in Baltimore. Among our many proud project completions were: St. Andrew's Episcopal School, Children’s National Medical Center Bunny Mellon Healing Garden dedicated to the First Ladies of the United States, UBIQ, REI at Uline Arena, LiUNA and BLVD at Reston Station.
Neighbors + Friends
Few things have been more meaningful than the strong relationships we’ve established with local community partners over the years. We understand the importance of giving back, and our 50th year was no exception. In addition to supporting our long-time partners at Samaritan Inns and Jubilee Support Alliance + Jubilee Housing, we established new partnerships throughout the year with great organizations like Nourish Now. DAVIS’ 3rd Annual Charity Golf Tournament was held in September with over 100 participants representing 35 subcontractor and industry partners. With the help of our generous sponsors the tournament was a huge success, raising $65,000 to benefit the National Parkinson Foundation (NPF) in honor of retired DAVIS Benefits Manager, Stephanie Stull who was diagnosed with the disease 14 years ago.
