| United States Green Building Council | Washington, DC22,500-SF LEED PLATINUM interior build-out OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE:Urban Realty Advisors, LLC
ARCHITECT:Perkins+Will
DURATION:4 Months This interior build-out, located in the Dupont Circle area of Washington, DC, serves as the national headquarters for the US Green Building Council. It was established early on in the design process that LEED Platinum would be a goal. Environmental friendly products are used throughout the space including bamboo and cork flooring; low VOC paints and adhesives; and bamboo millwork. Many products featured a high amount of recycled content as well. Among those were carpet, ceiling tiles, drywall, metal studs, and pantry countertops. Reclaimed timbers from a deconstructed warehouse on the west coast were used to create a screen wall around a conference room. Many manufacturers provided donated materials to the project to showcase the latest innovations in green products. Some of the donated materials included carpet, acoustical ceilings, millwork components, and light fixtures. Most of the space is open office with low systems furniture partitions and planters that allow views to the outside for over 90% of the occupants. A daylight harvesting system dims the light fixtures based on the amount of light coming through the perimeter windows. Utilizing a construction waste management program, more than 93% of the waste generated on the project was diverted from landfills. AWARDS:Award of Excellence for Best Interior / Sustainable Sustainable Design Award of Merit
